Re: Aug. 26 letter to the editor.
Itap laughable that readers take such umbrage when conservatives are mentioned in the same sentence as hate groups. If you do not like having your ideology or political party linked with such people, you should take a good look at the GOP’s policies and leaders.
There were plenty of options available in the 2012 primaries, but the national GOP chose by a wide margin Donald Trump, who was the leading proponent of a racist conspiracy theory to undermine our first black president and who wouldn’t disavow support from David Duke.
As president, he has bypassed normal procedures to pardon Joe Arpaio, who was finally facing consequences for jailing American citizens simply because they were Latino and not carrying papers. And Trump and Republican leaders promote voting restrictions across the country that would prevent minorities and poor people from exercising their rights.
You don’t have to be part of the KKK to promote their agenda. When hate groups cheer your side on, it should lead you to at the very least ask a few questions. If you cannot bring yourself to do that, you shouldn’t be surprised to get lumped in with the hatemongers.
