Thank you for printing the excellent article by Denver Mayor Michael Hancock that so movingly reminds us of the courage of the Little Rock Nine in integrating Little Rock’s high school 60 years ago. It causes me to think back to the timid 15-year-old version of myself, and I am totally humbled by these incredibly brave teenagers.
The photo (which accompanied Mayor Hancock’s article) of Minnijean Brown, age 15, separated from the rock-throwing and spitting crowd by the 101st Airborne Command, reminds us of a moment in history that highlights the best and the worst of us.
Since our nation appears to have taken several steps backward with respect to race relations, perhaps revisiting this historic moment may inspire us to work together to move the clock forward again.
