Letter-writer Adrienne Andrews Glenn quotes the Colorado Department of Transportation’s warning to drivers: “The left lane is for passing — the right lanes are for normal driving.” The reality is that the left lane is for speeding. If someone driving at the posted speed limit is passing a vehicle moving a couple of miles per hour slower, itap nearly guaranteed that the passing driver will be tailgated by someone for whom speed limits apparently don’t apply. In all likelihood, when the driver obeying the law completes the pass and moves over, the tailgater will toss a single-finger salute, incensed that anyone should dare to interfere with his/her right to break the law.
