Three people were taken to a Denver hospital Sunday afternoon after they were struck by a van while walking downtown.

The incident does not appear to have been intentional, said John White, a Denver Police Department spokesman.

The wreck happened around 2:30 p.m. in a parking lot near 15th Street and Stout Street, about a block from the busy 16th Street Mall pedestrian area.

The driver was leaving a parking lot and went through a gate, striking the three people who were on the other side of the gate, White said.

Investigators from the police department and the Denver district attorney’s office were interviewing the driver, victims and witnesses to determine whether or not charges will be filed, White said.
