Three-legged Steamboat mini pig paints to raise money for animal rescues

Tripp, the three-legged, 9-month-old mini pig, can identify three colors and do around 15 tricks

Two of Tripp the pig's masterpieces will be featured in the “4 the Love of Art and Animals” monthly online art auction, which ends 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 22.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — How does a three-legged mini pig express itself?

Through art, of course.

“Pigs are insanely smart animals and are a challenging pet,” said Rory Clow, born and raised in Steamboat Springs in a ranching family that is passionate about the care of rescue animals like Tripp, who was born with three legs. “They are often smart enough to out-think their owners, and need fairly constant attention and stimulation to keep them out of trouble.”

But not just any mini pig. Tripp, the 9-month-old mini pig, can identify three colors and do around 15 tricks, including weaving between Clow’s legs, ringing a bell on command, pushing a ball, sitting, spinning and more.

But one of his favorite activities is particularly messy — painting.
