Snow, messy roads and a traffic crashes shut down portions of Interstate 70 Wednesday in the mountains.
The eastbound lanes of I-70 at Vail closed at about 3:55 p.m. for safety concerns, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. The highway westbound at the Eisenhower Tunnel closed about 4:45 p.m. because of a traffic collision; the eastbound lanes at Silverthorne were closed about the same time by a crash; and I-70 westbound lanes were closed at Copper Mountain about 4 p.m. by a crash on Vail Pass.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
At Loveland Ski Area, officials said snow has been falling throughout the day. At 3 p.m. Wednesday, the weather service reported 6 inches of new snow at Cameron Pass.

Snow in the mountains on Wednesday was finding its way into Denver and along the Front Range, according to the National Weather Service. About 5 p.m. heavy snow was falling in the Denver area, and the temperature in the city had dropped to 39 degrees.

Skies were cloudy and snow was expected to last into the night, according to the weather service. Less than an inch of accumulation was expected in the city by Thursday morning.
On Thursday in Denver skies will be mostly sunny, with a high temperature near 52 degrees.
