FORT COLLINS — A jury has convicted a Fort Collins man for his role in the beating and stabbing death of another man in 2016.

Matthew Tatti was convicted of the lesser charge Friday instead of first-degree murder for the death of Benjamin McKinley.

Prosecutors say 39-year-old Tatti and Anthony Horne beat McKinley while the two co-defendants were drinking with other transients inside an abandoned building.

Prosecutors say Tatti gave Horne the pocketknife Horne used to stab McKinley to death.

Horne pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2017 and was sentenced to 48 years with the state Department of Corrections.

Tatti’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 25.

He faces a maximum sentence of six years in prison and $500,000 in fines.
