Bracket:
The Sooners, which beat the Gators 2-0 in last season’s best-of-three championship series, begin their quest for a three-peat against Boston University on Friday in the Norman Regional. They bring the best team earned run average into the tournament at 1.09, followed by Oregon at 1.12.
Oregon’s top ranking in the tournament is its second in school history (2014).
“Very deserving,” NCAA Division I softball committee chair Natalie Shock said of the Ducks. “We felt like as a committee they had a great body of work. They had done what they needed to do to be the No. 1 seed. It was a well-earned No. 1 seed.”
Outside of Oregon, the field features 13 Southeastern Conference teams led by Florida. It’s the second straight season every team in the conference received a bid.
