A woman is dead after reaching out to Westminster police on Saturday morning to alert them she was in an alleged domestic violence situation while she was the passenger in a vehicle.

The car crashed near the on-ramp to westbound U.S. 36 from Federal Boulevard, and the female victim was ejected and found dead nearby, according to a Westminster Police Department news release. “The car was upside down and engulfed in flames,” the news release read.

Police said the driver, whose identity they have not released, then carjacked a vehicle in the area of the crash and fled.

The man crashed the stolen vehicle near 91st Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard and fled on foot. The man again tried to carjack several vehicles, police said, but he was apprehended and was “combative” after a short foot chase. He is in custody of Westminster police.

Officers received the victim’s 911 call about domestic violence about 7 a.m. The victim said she was being assaulted and held against her will by a man she was in a relationship with while he drove through 104th Avenue and Federal Boulevard.

Police were attempting to contact relatives of the female victim and were withholding her name.
