2:50 p.m. — Highlights from Vance Joseph’s press conference

Some notable comments from Broncos coach Vance Joseph’s press conference today:

*On saying Sunday the Jets wanted it more than the Broncos: “Just watching the football game, they played a more physical brand of football. In some spots of the game, they really out-hit us, out-ran us. They played desperate football. I thought our guys played hard, but we didn’t play as desperate as we have in the last month.  We showed great grit in the first four weeks. Yesterday, I didn’t see the same grit from everyone.”

*On why he felt the Jets wanted it more: “I’m not sure. But we have to figure it out because itap now three in a row and we have to get it fixed now. It can’t linger. That team played good football yesterday, they made more plays than we made and obviously in the running game, they really exposed us.”

*On why he feels “really good” about Sunday’s game against the Rams: “Because I believe in our team but I’ll say this about our football team: We have to fix ourselves first before we talk about beating the Rams. We have to go back to the drawing board and fix our football team. … Thatap just me. But right now, we have to play a better brand of football and obviously the Kansas City game, we did some good stuff but didn’t make enough plays toward the end and didn’t play with enough detail in critical moments. The Baltimore game, I felt the same way. Yesterday felt different because of the grit that we have played with — I didn’t see the same grit. We have to get back to that first, fixing the Broncos.”

*On multiple veterans expressing their frustrations after the game: “I share their frustrations. The guys speaking out are actually playing good football players and are proven, veteran players for us. I listen to those guys. We have to go back to the drawing board and fix our issues – personnel issues, schematic issues – we have to go fix them. You have some veterans who have played a long time who wouldn’t care about a losing streak, but our guys do care.

1:29 p.m. — Marquette King thanks Broncos “for the chance”

The Broncos placed punter Marquette King on injured reserve and promoted Colby Wadman to the practice squad for the loss Sunday at the Jets. The Denver Post first reported the team intended to release King once healthy, and on Monday, it appears King confirmed it with a message on Twitter.

King averaged 39.7 yards net in four games, 20th in the NFL. He had poor punts in terms of distance and hang time in losses to Baltimore and Kansas City, earning public criticism from coach Vance Joseph.

King was signed to a two-year contract days after he was released by the Oakland Raiders during the off-season. King averaged 42.7 net yards last year for the Raiders, fourth-best in the league.
