A 40-year-old man will face assault and DUI charges after driving his pickup truck on Tuesday through two fences and later attempting to run over a responding officer.

Michael Flores was arrested on suspicion of attempted second-degree assault, third-degree assault and DUI, and could face additional charges, according to Longmont police Sgt. Bruce Pettitt.

According to Pettitt, Flores was doing burnouts on Martin Street north of Mountain View Avenue around 5 p.m. when he decided to go down the street at a high rate of speed, smashing through a fence. He then crossed Mountain View Avenue and took a fence out in two places, Pettitt said, narrowly missing a person’s home.

A nearby officer saw the incident and tried to contact Flores in the yard. According to Pettitt, Flores attempted to use his pickup to run the officer over, but it got stuck around a tree in a backyard.
