Former Denver Broncos linebacker Andra Davis pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of simple assault and assault and battery in a case in which he’s accused of choking a high school assistant basketball coach after a game in December.

Davis, 40, appeared in Aurora municipal court with several family members.

The incident occurred after a contentious Dec. 12 girls basketball game between Regis Jesuit and Grandview High School. Davis’s daughter, Alisha, a forward for Grandview, was ejected late in the game after punching a Regis player, a YouTube video of the game showed.

According to Aurora police accounts, Davis was upset that John Koslosky, an assistant Regis Jesuit coach and girls athletic director, had touched his daughter as he separated the two teams after the on-court fight.

Davis then entered the hallway after the game and allegedly began choking Koslosky with both hands while pushing him into the wall, the police report said. An off-duty officer who witnessed the altercation said Davis told Koslosky something to the effect of, “You don’t put your hands on my girl.”

Koslosky was treated at the hospital for minor injuries.

Davis was not arrested after the game. He was issued a municipal summons in January for simple assault and assault and battery.

On Wednesday, Alisha Davis to play basketball at the University of Northern Colorado.

Andra Davis played 10 seasons in the NFL for three teams, including the Broncos in 2009.
