The eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 bridge over Washington Street will be closed for three nights May 21-23 as crews work to make repairs, weather depending, the Colorado Department of Transportation announced Wednesday.

The Washington Street bridge at mile marker 274.50 is one of nine bridges that CDOT is repairing across the Denver area, according to the release.

Replacing some aging infrastructure will improve safety and reduce wear and tear on vehicles, CDOT said. The $1.4 million project began in February and is expected to be completed in November.

Some of the repairs include fixing bridge bearings, abutments and rails as well as painting, sealing and paving.

The eastbound I-70 bridge at Washington Street will be closed between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. May 21-23.

Detours include the following:

  • Eastbound I-70 traffic onto the off-ramp to bypass the closure and access the highway from the on-ramp after Washington Street.
  • Northbound Washington Street traffic onto Brighton Boulevard, continuing on 44th Street and East 47th Avenue.
  • Southbound Washington Street  traffic to East 47th Avenue toward 44th Street and Brighton Boulevard.
  • Semitrucks going south on Washington Street to westbound I-70, exit at Pecos Street, back on eastbound I-70, and reaching Washington Street.
