A woman was found dead Sunday morning in Lakewood in an area that had flooded and was 10 feet under water, authorities said.
Lakewood police received a call Saturday afternoon about a woman who was in the water during the flash flooding and search crews from West Metro Fire Rescue began looking for the woman near 12th Avenue and Miller Street.
Crews were unable to locate her Saturday night after searching the area, including in “chest-high water” along Lakewood Ditch and Rocky Mountain Ditch from Kipling Parkway and Garrison Street, West Metro Fire Rescue said on Twitter.

The water had receded Sunday by the time rescuers were out searching again, but they had to wade through thick vegetation along the Lakewood Ditch near 12th Avenue and Miller Street, according to West Metro Fire Rescue. They found the woman’s body near Lee Street and West 12th Avenue, near Sunset Park, said Lakewood police spokesman Robert Albrets.
Police are conducting a death investigation, as is standard practice for any unattended death, Albrets said. They are also working to confirm the woman’s identity.
