A cold front moving through northeastern Colorado brought snow to Denver late in the afternoon on Thursday and snow showers should linger along parts of the Front Range into the night.

New snow accumulation in Denver should be minimal, ranging from a dusting to one inch, with 2 to 4 inches in the mountains from the same cold front, according to the National Weather Service. Skies are expected to clear out on Thursday night.

In Denver the overnight low is expected to dip to 23 degrees with blustery winds gusting up to 21 mph, the weather service said.

Once the cold front passes through overnight, weather in northeastern Colorado will be sunny and unseasonably warm with temperatures on the rise. Friday’s high in Denver will be about 51 degrees, with a high of 65 on Saturday, and 69 on Sunday.

The three-day warm up will end abruptly Monday, when another cold front roars into northeastern Colorado bringing a hard shot of wintry weather. Monday’s high temperature in Denver is expected to be 32 degrees, with cloudy skies and snow likely after 11 a.m., the weather service reports. Tuesday should be even colder, with the high temperature in Denver topping out at frigid 23 degrees.

“Several inches of snow will be possible, especially in the mountains, foothills and urban corridor,” the weather service said of next week’s return to winter weather.

Travel could be difficult and the weather service is watching the approaching storm system closely.
