
The fifth-seeded Denver Pioneers hockey team lost in the NCHC Frozen Faceoff tournament semifinals Monday, falling to top seed North Dakota, 2-1, in overtime in Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.
Junior forward Gavin Hain scored with 11:23 to go in overtime just as the Fighting Hawks’ power play ended to secure the victory.

DU (10-13-1) struck first when freshman forward Carter Savoie scored on a power-play goal with 14:08 to go in the second period.
Denver held the lead until late in the third period. With 2:19 remaining, North Dakota (20-5-1) pulled its goaltender. With the man advantage, the Fighting Hawks tied it at 1-apiece on junior forward Jasper Weatherby’s goal with 1:25 left.
