Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon left the game early in the first period after a big hit from Boston Bruins’ Taylor Hall.

He did not return. The Avs announced before the start of the second period that their All-Star forward was dealing with an “upper body injury.”

MacKinnon took the hit going over the middle, as his stick appeared to come up and hit him in the face during Hall’s shoulder-barge, causing blood to spew onto the ice.

Hall ended up receiving a two minute penalty for interference on the play.
