Weather conditions on Colorado’s roads are deteriorating Wednesday morning as another blast of arctic air and snow moves through.
The Colorado Department of Transportation warns drivers to prepare for changing road conditions and follow traction and chain laws.
“Another winter storm system impacts Colorado Wednesday through Thursday,” CDOT wrote on their website. “Snow will move from north to south across the state through the morning, reaching Interstate 70 and Denver mid-day. By Thursday, the southwestern mountains and southern Plains will see snow.”
Snow was affecting I-70 early as crews shut down the westbound side of the road just before the Eisenhower Tunnel. After a few hours of cleaning up multiple spin-outs and crashes before the continental divide crossing, the road reopened before 9 a.m.
There are no significant incidents in the Denver metro area, just slow spots while the morning commute gets going.
Up north, Interstate 25 headed south between Colorado Highway 119 and Colorado Highway 52 near Firestone, has a lane closed due to a vehicle fire that occurred earlier.
I-25 northbound was closed between Colorado Highway 68 and Prospect Road near Fort Collins due to an earlier crash. Fort Collins police reported they were assisting Colorado State Patrol on a multi-vehicle collision. The road reopened just before 9 a.m.
There’s another crash on southbound I-25 just south of Mulberry, FCPD said. They recommend an alternate route.
Closer to the city, I-25 has a lane closed southbound at 104th Avenue because of a crash.
Aurora and Fort Collins are already on crash alert and more cities will likely follow soon.
Freezing fog in Kit Carson County. Roads are icy, please slow down!
