Rockies 17, Cubs 1
Friday at Sloan Park

On the mound: Right-hander German Marquez got in his work, pitching three scoreless innings. He allowed  two hits, with two walks and four strikeouts. He threw 54 pitches. He’s scheduled for two more Cactus League starts before opening day on April 8 against the Dodgers at Coors Field. …Right-handers Justin Lawrence and Tyler Kinley were both sharp, each tossing a scoreless inning with no hits and two strikeouts.

At the plate: The wind must have been blowing out at Wrigley, er, Sloan Park. The Rockies launched six home runs, one each by Brendan Rodgers, Ezequiel Tovar, Connor Joe, Elehuris Montero, Coco Montes, and Hunter Stovall. … The Rockies had 18 hits, including a 2-for-2 day for Charlie Blackmon and a triple-double by C.J. Cron (three at-bats, three doubles).

Worth noting: Colorado turned in one of its prettiest plays of spring in the second inning. Chicago’s Nick Madrigal doubled to Joe in left field, who relayed the ball to Rodgers, who threw a strike to catcher Brian Serven to nail Wilson Contreras as he tried to score.

Up next: Rangers (5-1) at Rockies (4-4-1), 2:10 p.m. (MDT) Saturday, Salt River Fields
Rockies pitchers: LHP Austin Gomber, RHP Chad Kuhl, RHP Robert Stephenson, RHP Julian Fernández, RHP Justin Lawrence.
