Brewers 8, Rockies 7
Monday at Salt River Fields

On the mound: Right-hander German Marquez, his breaking ball confounding hitters, stuck out eight in five innings of work and threw 74 pitches. In his final start of spring, Marquez allowed two runs and three hits and walked two. He finished with a 2.31 ERA. … Ninth-inning candidate Carlos Estevez left too many balls over the plate, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits in an inning of work. … The other closer candidates also pitched. Free-agent pickup Alex Colome gave up a run on three hits, while Daniel Bard pitched a scoreless ninth, allowing two hits but also striking out two. Bard has yet to allow a run this spring in four outings (4.0 innings pitched).

At the plate: Charlie Blackman hit a solo home run in the seventh, his second homer of spring. … Kris Bryant drove in two runs and hit his fourth double of spring, but he also fanned twice. … Outfielder Yonathan Daza hit 2-for-2, improving his spring average to .480 (12-for-25).

Worth noting: One of the Rockies’ goals for spring training was to hit better with runners in scoring position. They did fine Monday night, going 6-for-11.

Up next: Guardians (7-10) at Rockies (7-9-3), 2:10 p.m. (MDT) Tuesday, Salt River Fields
Rockies pitchers: LHP Austin Gomber, RHP Jordan Sheffield, LHP Lucas Gilbreath, RHP Tyler Kinley, LHP Ty Blach
