UPDATE (10 a.m. July 19): The man who was shot by Aurora police has died.
After hours of negotiation attempts, a standoff between a homicide suspect and Aurora police ended early Tuesday morning after the man was shot by officers and hospitalized.
The man, according to police, had barricaded himself in a home Monday afternoon near the 400 block of North Oswego Street. Residents in the neighborhood were sent a reverse 911 call and told to stay inside as police attempted to negotiate with the suspect.
Police arrived sometime around 5 p.m. Monday and the ordeal lasted well into the night, spilling into the early hours of Tuesday morning.
After advising nearby residents to stay inside and away from their windows, police say negotiators were able to get on the phone with the suspect, Aurora police said in a tweet at 6:57 p.m.
At 9:42 p.m., Aurora police tweeted that multiple shots had been fired from inside the home, though no officers were injured.
Shortly after that, police reported that the man was back on the phone with negotiators.
Hours later, in a tweet at 2:58 a.m., police announced that officers fired shots and that “a male has been transported to the hospital.” His current condition is unknown.
