Reversing Alex Valdez sponsor bill, “1362,” that raises cost of newly built businesses and single-family homes, reverse bills that raise gas and food prices and cut fees.
The chamber may see split Democrat-Republican control next year. On what issues do you see common ground with the opposite party?
Funding the police.
What perspective or background would you bring to the chamber that is currently missing?
The knowledge that we work for the people and we are there to do the will of the people that voted for us not special interest lobbyist.
What more can the state legislature do to ease housing costs across Colorado?
Reverse Alix Valdez sponsor bill 1362 and any other law that add so-called fees.
Do you support the current law on fentanyl possession and resources for treatment?
Candidate did not offer a responsive answer.
What are your top three priorities for the next legislative session?
I will continue to make progress on environmental plans that create jobs and help us to solve our Front Range pollution issues. I will prioritize rebuilding the economy for small businesses who have disproportionately been ruined by the pandemic, and reduce the high levels of vacancy in downtown Denver. I have been a champion for childcare since entering the Colorado House of Representatives and will continue to work to increase the accessibility and affordability of childcare for working parents.
The chamber may see split Democrat-Republican control next year. On what issues do you see common ground with the opposite party?
I always focus my agenda on the issues that matter most to the people of Denver, including childcare accessibility and economic security for small businesses. I have consistently been able to reach across the aisle and work on bipartisan issues that matter to the people of Denver.
What perspective or background would you bring to the chamber that is currently missing?
As one of the few entrepreneurs that serve in the legislature, I can speak on what the actual impacts of policies are on small businesses in Colorado. I have also lived in the Denver area my whole life and only recently became involved in politics, so I understand the challenges that the people of urban Denver face.
What more can the state legislature do to ease housing costs across Colorado?
The cost of building houses has continued to skyrocket, but the wages of Coloradans have not kept pace. While we need to innovate the way that we approach housing to make new buildings more affordable, we also need to incentivize high-paying employers to relocate to Colorado.
Do you support the current law on fentanyl possession and resources for treatment?
I supported HB22-1326, but believe the bill fell short of saving as many lives as we could. I am proud of the treatment resources that Denver has, but I think there is a lot of room for improvement statewide to increase the use of effective alternate responses.
What are your top three priorities for the next legislative session?
1. Homelessness
2. Equal rights for all – immediate action to codify abortion access
3. Easing the economic burden on the lowest income and middle class earners
The chamber may see split Democrat-Republican control next year. On what issues do you see common ground with the opposite party?
As a member of the Unity Party, a key pillar of the party is to approach every issue with an open mind and to find the common ground on all good faith arguments presented. Personally, I agree with the Democratic stances on equal rights and general economic policy. Unfortunately, the current Republican Party leadership is not acting in good faith, so I cannot in good faith stand behind any of their current party platform.
What perspective or background would you bring to the chamber that is currently missing?
As a member of a 3rd party, I bring the ability to allow more diverse conversations to be had and to be a referee between the two major parties to call out when progress is not being made for the people simply for the sake of personal ego or retention of power.
What more can the state legislature do to ease housing costs across Colorado?
Amending CO Rev Stat § 38-12-301 to Allow for rent control legislation to be allowed. Then draft or support creation of legislation to control the rent to income disparity seen today. Separately, another measure needs to be enacted to limit and reduce the number of investment real-estate purchases of single-family homes that lock real families out of the ability to purchase their first home.
Do you support the current law on fentanyl possession and resources for treatment?
I fully support this bill. The devastation and rapid spread through communities and across all street drug types is incredibly concerning and the community, especially the most impressionable must be well informed about the dangers. This must be well thought out however, as we have seen the past failures in the war on drugs and have an opportunity to approach narcotic addicts and addiction with compassion and understanding that there are more often than not underlying mental health issues that must be addressed in parallel.
