Thunderstorms, flooding sweep through metro Denver, Front Range

Winds, hail and heavy rains are in the National Weather Service forecast

7:00 p.m.: At Denver International Airport, stormy weather contributed to 144 flight delays between 4 and 8 p.m., according to FlightAware.com. Departing flight delays were averaging about 50 minutes and increasing; while arrivals were delayed an average of 37 minutes and decreasing.

6:49 p.m.: A Tornado Warning is issued for Karvel in Lincoln County through 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

6:47 p.m.: A Flash Flood Warning is posted for a portion of Pueblo County, including Pueblo West, through 7:45 p.m. and Platteville Boulevard from the Pueblo city limits to States Avenue and Mint Drive is closed by flooding. Avoid the area indefinitely, officials said.

5:32 p.m.: The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Pueblo and Crowley counties that is in effect through 5:45 p.m.

A KRDO TV meteorologist posted a tweet stating that radar indicated there was a tornado in northeast Pueblo County.

4:03 p.m.: A Flash Flood Warning is issued for Larimer County by the National Weather Service until 7 p.m. The warning area is north of Drake and Glen Haven in the Cameron Peak wildfire burn scar area.

3:35 p.m.: Lightning hit a home in Wheat Ridge, blowing a hole in the roof and a ceiling, and blowing out plugs of electrical outlets, said West Metro Fire Rescue. The family is staying elsewhere until the wiring damage is deemed safe, the strike did not spark a fire.

3:05 p.m.: At Denver International Airport, all inbound flights are being held at their origin until 3:30 p.m., according to FlightAware.com. Arrivals are delayed about 30 minutes with the time increasing. DIA has 42 outbound flights delayed as of about 3 p.m.

2:30 p.m.: Strong thunderstorms will push through the metro area moving northeast into the evening, brief heavy rain and hail up to one-inch in diameter is expected in some areas.

2:24 p.m.: A flood advisory is issued for Larimer County, including the Cameron Peak wildfire burn scar area, through 3 p.m.

2:20 p.m.: Quarter-sized hail is hitting Parker, which remains under a severe thunderstorm warning through 2:45 p.m.

2:16 p.m.: The risk for severe weather is “marginal” Wednesday for the metro area through 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Heavy rain, hail and winds gusting to 60 mph are in the forecast.

2:05 p.m.: Thunderstorms are rolling into the metro area and a severe thunderstorm warning in effect through 2:45 p.m. for Parker has been issued by the National Weather Service.
