Bus and train rides around metro Denver for residents age 19 and under will be free for a year, Tuesday morning.

Starting Sept. 1 under RTD’s Zero Fare for Youth pilot program — approved on July 25 — anybody under 20 will be able to ride on RTD buses and trains for free through August 2024, officials said in a news advisory.

RTD’s manager Debra Johnson planned to gather with Denver Councilwoman Amanda Sawyer, Denver Public Schools Board Member Scott Baldermann, and RTD board members by light rail tracks at Denver’s Union Station Tuesday morning to unveil the program.
