A Colorado musician and father of two was killed by a suspected drunken driver near West 64th Avenue and Lamar Street in Arvada on Monday.
Police and firefighters responded to a multi-vehicle crash at 3:39 p.m. Monday after a silver GMC pickup truck traveling east on 64th Avenue ran a red light at Lamar Street, hitting a maroon Toyota sedan and a gray Ford Bronco.
First responders initially reported the crash involved four vehicles, but later determined the fourth vehicle that was in the intersection was not hit during the crash, said Arvada Police spokesperson David Snelling.
The crash caused the Toyota to go into a front yard and home in the northwest corner of the intersection. The driver of the Toyota, 44-year-old Kresten Wolff Thomsen, died at the scene, Arvada police said in a news release.
Two children riding in the sedan were taken to the hospital, one with serious injuries. The driver of the Bronco was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the crash, Arvada police said Monday. The driver of the GMC, 23-year-old Juan Ortega Torres Jr., was also taken to the hospital and is in police custody.
Thomsen was picking up his two children from school and was just a few miles from home when the crash occurred, Both children are in intensive care at the hospital.
The fundraiser, set up by a family friend, described Thomsen as a talented musician who worked with the Denver ballet.
On a , Thomsen described himself as a composer, writer and musician and wrote about playing for the Colorado Ballet Academy and recording music at a studio in Copenhagen, Denmark.
