A motorcycle driver was killed in a car collision Tuesday afternoon at Taft Avenue and First Street.
The man was traveling north on Taft when the sedan hit him as its driver attempted to tuft left from southbound Taft onto First Street, according to Loveland Police Department Sgt. Jeff Mayers who was on scene Tuesday afternoon; he added the motorcycle had the right of way as it approached the intersection.

Mayers said the driver of the sedan fled the scene after hitting the motorcycle, which burst into flames. He said officers responded to the crash site and were able to put out the flames with fire extinguishers in minutes, with the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority arriving soon after to assist.
The motorcycle driver, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene, Mayers said. He added that the driver of the sedan was arrested in the 400 block of West Fourth Street after leaving the scene, but he could not provide information on the sedan driver’s name or the charges the driver will face.
The incident caused the closure of the Taft and First Street intersection for several hours as police and fire personnel investigated the scene, towed the motorcycle away and sprayed down the roadway. The LPD sent out an initial post online at 1:48 p.m. about the road closure and an update that the roadway was open at 4:42 p.m.
This is an ongoing incident. The Reporter-Herald will provide updates as soon as they become available.
