4:45 p.m. update: More than 500 flights at Denver International Airport were delayed or canceled by Saturday afternoon, after a days-long winter storm finally departed the metro area.

Delays continued to pile up throughout the day, though no additional flights were canceled after a morning flurry of bad news for travelers. By the end of the workday, 73 flights into and out of the airport had been canceled, while another 438 were delayed.

Most of the impacted flights belonged to SkyWest, with 50 flights canceled and 136 delayed; United, with six flights canceled and 158 delayed; and Southwest, with eight flights canceled and 88 delayed.

Previous reporting: Snowfall slowed across the Denver metro area Saturday morning, but delays and cancellations continued at Denver International Airport, after a week that saw thousands of flights impacted by winter weather.

As of 11:35 a.m., 73 flights into and out of the airport had been canceled Saturday while another 263 were delayed,

The majority of those flights belonged to SkyWest, with 50 flights canceled and 62 delayed; United, with six flights canceled and 99 delayed; and Southwest, with eight flights canceled and 73 delayed.

Travel impacts Saturday were less severe than the preceding days, with about 1,100 flights impacted Thursday followed by more than 1,500 flights Friday.

Airport spokesman Michael Konopasek said many of the delays were necessitated by the process of removing ice from planes.

“It was a smooth operation, all things considered,” he said. “We’re looking forward to doing some cleanup work. We’ve been focused on snow removal here the entire time.”
