A bomb threat prompted the early dismissal of students at Wheat Ridge High School and the interrogation of a teenage girl Friday morning, according to police.
Police spokesperson Alex Rose said the FBI told officers about a social media threat targeting the school about 9:15 a.m.
Police took one girl into custody, and students were evacuated shortly before 11:15 a.m. “out of an abundance of caution,” Rose said.
Specialists with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the State Patrol used bomb-sniffing dogs to search the school but did not find explosives.
“We’re in a unique community where a lot of the students who attend Wheat Ridge High are within walking distance, so a lot of them were just able to walk home,” Rose said.

Rose said police have not recommended formal charges for the girl but are considering the charge of false reporting of explosives, which he said is a Class 6 felony.
