El Paso County topped CSP’s 2024 list of the counties where the most speeding violations happened, .
El Paso County drivers received 2,161 violations. Douglas, Jefferson, Fremont and Mesa counties rounded out the top five counties for speeding violations issued in 2024, with 862, 831, 727, and 684, respectively. The agency said were issued for speeding in the state in 2024.
El Paso, Douglas, and Jefferson counties have been in the top five counties for speeding citations for the past four years. Mesa County made the top five for the first time in four years, while Fremont County made the top five for the third consecutive year.
CSP also released data about which roads the fastest violators were traveling when they were ticketed. Interstate 70, Interstate 25, U.S. 50, U.S. 24, and U.S. 285 saw drivers with the greatest intervals between their speeds and the posted speed limits. I-70, I-25, U.S. 50, and U.S. 24 have been the top four speediest highways for six years. U.S. 285 entered the list in 2022, and has kept its position since.
Speeding was the second-highest cause of crashes that killed or injured someone in 2024. To combat speeding, CSP has begun a three-month campaign called “Stop Speeding” and is enforcing a “low-tolerance approach” to lane violations, speeding, and other high-risk driving behaviors.
