Colorado road conditions: U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass reopens after snowy morning

Expect a slow commute Friday morning, National Weather Service warns

12:20 p.m. Friday update: U.S. 6 near Loveland Pass reopened as of 12:14 p.m.

Westbound I-70 is now clear.

9:30 a.m. Friday update: Both directions of Interstate 70 near the Eisenhower Tunnel have reopened again, according to Colorado’s Department of Transportation.

Westbound I-70 has reopened, but delays are to be expected because of a stalled vehicle near U.S. 6. U.S. 6 near Loveland Pass remains closed because of safety concerns.

7:30 a.m. Friday update: Both directions of Interstate 70 have closed again near the Eisenhower Tunnel between Silverthorne and Silver Plume due to safety concerns caused by heavy snow, according to Colorado’s Department of Transportation.

Westbound I-70 has also closed near Vail Pass amid the ongoing winter weather. A closure on U.S. 6 near Loveland Pass remains in place.

6:20 a.m. Friday update: All of Interstate 70 had reopened in Colorado as of Friday morning, though snow and ice continue to impact travel across the state.

Colorado's Department of Transportation warns wet and icy pavement is causing delays on I-70 between Rifle and Vail. Ice is also present on Interstate 25 north of the Denver metro area, Interstate 76 northeast of Sterling and on other state and federal highways.

U.S. 6 remains closed over Loveland Pass due to safety concerns.

Previous reporting: Eastbound Interstate 70 is closed between Eisenhower Tunnel and Silverthorne because of adverse road conditions, multiple crashes and slide-offs Thursday night as another winter storm sweeps across Colorado.

Drivers should expect extended delays and not travel through the area, in a travel alert

between exit 203 for east Frisco and exit 205 for Silverthorne for safety concerns as of 9 p.m., according to CDOT.
