Aurora police have arrested a suspect who they say fled from Arapahoe County deputies and prompting a standoff that lasted nearly four hours Saturday.
The incident started about 7:24 a.m., when deputies tried to stop a suspected stolen vehicle near Parker Road and Mississippi Avenue, according to sheriff’s spokesperson John Bartmann and
The vehicle sped away and crashed. Deputies arrested a female passenger, and the male driver ran into the nearby Raintree East townhome complex, where police believe he had broken into a residence and barricaded himself by 9 a.m.
Aurora police spokesperson Sydney Edwards said residents near the townhome in the 9900 block of East Evans Avenue were ordered to shelter in place.
No injuries were reported during the incident. Police announced shortly before 1 p.m. that and adjacent roadways remained closed while crews cleared the scene. The intersections of East Jewell Avenue and South Havana Street, and Jewell and South Dayton Street were closed during the standoff.
