Crews conquer snow to reopen Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park

Wintry weather kept stretch of U.S. 34 closed through Memorial Day

Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park is back open after plow crews spent weeks battling wind and snow to clear the high-country segment of U.S. 34.

The park announced the reopening Friday after sharing that the roadway would remain closed through Memorial Day because of the weather.

Park visitors must make a reservation to use the road between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. More information about reservations is available at

Trail Ridge Road is shut down every year during the snow season and historically reopens in late May.

Its crest at 12,183 feet makes it the highest continuous paved road in the country,
