Family of missing CU Boulder student found dead offering reward for information from homeless people

The family will hand out packages of essential hygiene items and snacks to homeless people with information about the reward.

The family of Megan Trussell, , is packaging essential items to hand out to local homeless people that will advertise a $1,000 reward for any tips leading to answers.

Trussell, 18, was , just west of the intersection of Cañon Park Drive. Prior to being found, she was last seen leaving her campus dorm, Hallett Hall, on Feb. 9. In May, the Boulder County Coroner’s Office ruled her manner of death as suicide and stated that she died as a result of the toxic effects of amphetamine. The office ruled that exposure to a cold environment, or hypothermia, contributed to her death.

Trussell’s mother, Vanessa Diaz, said in May that she does not believe her daughter committed suicide. On Wednesday, Diaz and family that they will hand out 50 packages containing essential hygiene items, snacks and a flyer featuring Trussell, details of her death and contact information for any tips.

“We are organizing an essentials drive to raise awareness about her case and, we hope, uncover new information that could bring us closer to the truth,” Trussell’s family wrote in a release. “We believe members of the unhoused community may hold answers about what happened to Megan.”

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, which investigated Trussell’s death, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The family plans to hand out the bags in early July. All items for the essential bags were bought by donors from an by Thursday morning.
