Denver’s hottest March in history smashes more than a dozen heat records

Denver broke 14 heat records in March, according to the National Weather Service

Denver skipped spring and jumped straight into summer last month, breaking more than a dozen heat records along the way, according to the National Weather Service.

A combination of record daily highs and lows, paired with unseasonably warm temperatures that didn’t quite take the top spot, made last month Denver’s hottest March since the weather service began collecting temperature data in 1872.

Denver’s average March temperature this year — a combination of all the city’s daily highs and lows throughout the month — was a record-breaking 51.6 degrees, . That’s nearly 10 degrees hotter than Denver’s usual March average of 41.7 degrees, according to the weather service.

The city also broke six daily heat records in March and smashed the decades-old monthly record four times, according to .

Denver's overnight lows in March averaged out to 35.7 degrees, another record, according to the weather service. The city's normal average is 27.5 degrees.

Denver also set two daily records for the warmest low temperature: 54 degrees on March 25 and 51 degrees on March 30, according to weather service data.
