A car went airborne and smashed into the second story of a church in Security-Widefield Saturday night when the driver failed to make a right turn, the Colorado State Patrol said.

The driver, an 18-year-old male from Colorado Springs, was taken to a hospital. The CSP said he had life-threatening injuries.

The passenger, a 14-year-old male from Colorado Springs, was seriously injured and was taken to a hospital. The CSP didn’t have updates Sunday on the teens’ conditions.

The CSP said the 18-year-old was driving a Subaru WRX south on Main Street at about 9:40 p.m. in Security-Widefield when he failed to navigate a right turn, going off the road.

The car hit a landscape boulder, went airborne and crashed into the church’s second story before landing on the ground near the building. Pictures show a big gap near a corner of the brick building.

The CSP Vehicular Crimes Unit is investigating the crash. Anyone who saw the accident or has information can contact CSP patrol dispatch 719-544-2424 and reference case number VC260123.
