After making a slew of undrafted free-agent signings, the Broncos are trimming their offseason roster as rookie minicamp kicks off this weekend.

Denver is cutting reserve offensive tackle and outside linebacker Garrett Nelson, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. The moves bring the Broncos’ offseason-roster count to 91 — with 70 players currently on the roster (not counting an international exemption for punter Jeremy Crawshaw), seven rookies and 13 undrafted free-agent rookie contracts.

Originally, the Broncos agreed to contracts with 14 undrafted free agents. Charlotte receiver Sean Brown, though, failed a physical relating to a Jones fracture sustained in February, he told The Post. Denver has thereby rescinded an agreement with Brown, which brings the Broncos in compliance with the NFL’s offseason roster limit of 90 with the two cuts on Friday.

Cox and Nelson both signed futures deals with the Broncos in January, but have been consistently yo-yoed around for roster-management purposes. Cox and Nelson have now been signed and released by Denver four separate times over the past year, with brief stints on the Cardinals’ and Saints’ practice squads intermixed.

The Broncos originally signed Cox as a rookie free agent in April 2025, after the 6-foot-5 tackle went undrafted out of Kentucky in 2025, and added Nelson — a 26-year-old former Nebraska product — in the summer last year.

Denver will now have to make room on its roster if the club wants to sign any rookies or veterans who impress at this weekend’s minicamp. The Denver Post has confirmed 33 names in attendance, including veterans like quarterback Nathan Peterman and local rookies like Colorado OL Zarian McGill and Colorado State CB Jahari Rogers.

Returning 2025 seventh-round pick Caleb Lohner, too, will take part in this weekend’s festivities, multiple sources told The Post — as the Broncos clearly want to squeeze any potential development reps for a still-raw but high-upside tight end.
