SALT: SO SWEET!
Fleur de Sel cookies
Emogene
2415 E. Second Ave., Denver
303-388-7900
Pastry chef Deana Lezcano’s little gift to the sweets-weary palate hides out at the bottom of the case at Emogene. They deserve more attention. Crispy little clouds of dark chocolate flavored with raw sugar and just a hint of salt, they feel downright disciplined compared with the peanut butter and jelly bombs and chocolate passion-fruit crunch cakes that get all the top-shelf notice.
TOO COOL GLASS
du Verre

From sand melted at 1,000 degrees Natalie Fetter, her husband, Travis, and his dad, Gary, shape some of the coolest objects around. Chic perfume bottles. Delicate holiday ornaments. Amazing vases. Funky wine stones. Du Verre – French for “from glass” – is just getting its studio going, so you’ll have to go to Third Thursday, 5-8 p.m. in the Highland shopping district, this week to see their wares displayed at Uncommon Scents, 3716 W. 32nd Ave.
OVER THE TOP
Sally’s pizza
306 Victor Ave., Victor
719-689-3120
Above the tree line in winter, travelers have to warm up with what they can get. What you can get all day and most of the night in Victor is out-of-this world ragged edge pizza. Expect to spend $12 to $16 for a large pie slicked with a New York-style tangy red sauce slow-cooked by Sally’s manager, Keith Lowrey. Don’t be looking for a hand-tossed crust, though. “You just can’t do that at 10,000 feet. It won’t rise right,” Lowrey says.
