An American Airlines 757 jet aircraft with 110 passengers was forced to land in Grand Junction tonight after the cockpit filled with smoke.

The flight was enroute from Newark, N.J. to Los Angeles when trouble developed around 10 p.m.

The aircraft, with some 17,000 pounds of fuel on board, landed safely with no injuries reported just after 10 p.m.

Grand Junction firefighters were on scene when it landed. The cause of the smoke or the extent of the damage has not been determined.
