DENVER—Authorities say fencing being set up in Denver’s Civic Center Park has nothing to do with protests taking place nearby in connection with the Democratic National Convention.

Organizers of free community event called A Taste of Colorado began fencing off access to certain portions of the park Wednesday morning to prepare for construction for the Labor Day weekend festivities.

Planners say preparations for the event require round-the-clock construction ahead of the festival’s opening.

The Joint Information Center, a command set up by city, state and federal authorities to field media inquiries during the convention, says the fencing is a normal precaution for any construction site.

Officials say groups using the park have been informed about the set up.
