DURANGO, COLO. — Foreclosures in the resort and tourist county of La Plata County are on track to reach a 19-year high.
Ninety-nine foreclosures were filed in the southwestern Colorado county, which is home to Durango and Durango Mountain Resort, through Friday, a 62 percent increase from last year’s pace.
Statewide, foreclosures increased 16 percent during the first half of 2008 from the same period last year.
The last year foreclosures broke 100 was 1989, when 112 foreclosures were filed.
Residential building in Durango has slowed, with permits down by 73 percent. Through September, the city of Durango issued permits for 66 units, down from 247 units at the same point in 2007. The data include single-family, multifamily and duplex units.
