The International Snow Sculpture Championships begin with a shotgun start. Teams use hand tools to carve 10-by-10-by-12-foot blocks of snow that are made by local volunteers who stomp down piles of snow dumped into wood frames by front-end loaders, The artists work for 65 hours, and pull an all-nighter on Friday, one of the best times to see what’s taking shape.
