VAIL, Colo.—A driver has been cited with careless driving after a wreck that left the cab of his truck dangling off the edge of a bridge on Vail Pass.
It happened at 9:15 a.m. Monday on Interstate 70.
Cpl. Larry Graves of the Colorado State Patrol says 23-year-old Francisco Chavez-Ramirez of Longmont lost control of the eastbound truck on an icy bridge.
He says the truck slid into the median and a concrete wall before coming to a rest with its cab hanging off the edge of the bridge—which drops about 100 feet to the ground.
Graves says the driver got out safely but was lucky he wasn’t driving faster when the wreck occurred. No injuries were reported.
Portions of the interstate were closed for about three hours while crews towed away the truck and cleaned up about 50 gallons of spilled diesel fuel.
