PUEBLO, Colo.—A proposed water pipeline from southern Colorado to Colorado Springs has a new opponent.

Pueblo County’s district attorney has written to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers asking them not to issue a permit for the $1.1 billion pipeline. Bill Thiebaut says Colorado Springs Utilities has environmental problems to fix before the utility should be allowed to expand.

The proposed line would take water from eastern Pueblo County or near Las Animas and bring it as far north as Monument for the Pikes Peak Regional Water Authority.

The letter puts Thiebaut in disagreement with Pueblo County commissioners. Commissioners signed off on the idea in April.
