Lace ’em up for a good cause

Four hundred friends of Outward Bound Denver slipped into tuxedos and evening gowns — then laced up their tennis shoes and headed to Invesco Field for an interactive fundraiser that honored retired quarterback Brian Griese and Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl. Before sitting down to dinner at this event chaired by Dream Big Day Camp director George Stein, guests could test their skill on a climbing wall, guess the weight of a loaded backpack or participate in a tarp-flip challenge. The $170,000 that was raised goes to Outward Bound’s scholarship fund. Photos by Steve Peterson, Special to The Denver Post

Hospital’s hard-hat gala

For 120 years, St. Anthony Central Hospital has delivered compassionate care to the sick and injured from a campus beside Sloan’s Lake in Denver. On June 20, though, a new era begins when doors to the $435 million St. Anthony Hospital open in Lakewood. To celebrate the impending move, and to complete a capital campaign, the St. Anthony Foundation hosted Hard Hat & High Heels, a dinner, auction and dance that filled Exdo Event Center with a group that included doctors, hospital executives, politicians and other civic leaders. Joanne Davidson has more about the Tonka Truck centerpieces, waiters in construction bibs and those who helped make the night a success in her Seen First blog:
