The Lumineers are ready for their close-up. The Denver folkies have the No. 35 album on Billboard’s rock chart — a self-titled debut that’s been heralded by critics far and wide since its April 3 release. Tonight marks the band’s first of two sold-out shows at the Bluebird Theater, its biggest hometown gigs to date. That is, until the Lumineers open for Cake at Red Rocks in July. This band’s rise is far from over, as current single “Ho Hey” is picking up more steam just as summer rears its head. Reverb favorite Joe Pug co-headlines the second night after playing a Larimer Lounge barbecue on Saturday afternoon. Tickets are gone, but try your luck outside the venue.
Deer Tick’s live show is something every rock music fan should see, if only once. It’s reckless yet calculated, lewd yet tender, sweaty yet … OK, just sweaty. Lead singer John McCauley’s voice is a bit polarizing, sure, but he sings with conviction and shows no signs of boredom, not even after years of road-dogging with his three Rhode Island compadres or various side projects (Middle Brother, Diamond Rugs). Tickets for Sunday’s show at the Bluebird Theater, $22, are available through . Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside will open the show.
