Thursday night’s concert at featured just about every song you haven’t been able to get out of your head since the early 2000s. The Honda Civic Tour brought , and to Greenwood Village for one of the last shows of the summer season.
Mutemath and Incubus’ slightly mellower sets provided an organic flow to the night, getting fans amped up just enough for the heavier, more in-your-face music of Linkin Park. Offering live versions of some the most recognized songs of the last two decades, Incubus had the capacity crowd belting out the lyrics to “Drive” and “Megalomaniac” (and everyone from Thursday’s crowd probably still has “Pardon Me” stuck in their heads).
From start to finish, Linkin Park’s show was stacked with radio hits like “Somewhere I Belong” and “New Divide,” but it was the newer, heavier tracks like “Victimized” off 2012’s “Living Things” that stood out as some of the best musical offerings of the night.
With hit singles comes the money to afford major production — which Linkin Park definitely did not skimp on. Screens behind the stage projected live shots of the band and crowd throughout the night along with pyrotechnics and bursts of fire that engulfed the stage later in the night.
Closing with “One Step Closer” would have been a satisfying end to the show, but the encore is what pushed the already hyped crowd into overdrive. Linkin Park brought out Incubus guitarist Michael Einziger for a collaboration on “Bleed It Out” that transitioned to a cover of Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” — all while a waterfall of pyro poured down behind the stage.
