Things are starting to pick up this week after the holiday lull/New Year’s Eve hangover. As bands head out on tour and announce albums for 2014 the second half of January is just about to pick up. Topping Reverb’s picks of best Colorado shows this week are , and more. We’ll be seeing you there, and if you don’t make it out, follow the music musings and our

3) Robert DeLong, Inner Oceans — Larimer Lounge, Jan. 15, $10-$20

You have to appreciate a show that has the words “DID I MAKE YOU F*CKING DANCE?” in bold letters on its poster. If you’ve ever heard Washington producer Robert DeLong, you’ll know that’s what he asks in his breakout single, “Global Concepts,” and that’s eventually what you’ll end up doing. Having released the aptly titled “Just Movement” in 2013, DeLong comes to Denver’s Larimer Lounge on Jan. 15. The bubbly, EDM production in the album is pushed in an indie-pop direction thanks to the Postal Service-esque vocals. DeLong is joined at the Larimer Lounge with local act , who will be celebrating getting accepted to the SXSW official showcase lineup this week.

2) Matt Pryor — Hi-Dive, Jan. 15, $12-$15

doesn’t care what genre it is, he’s just here to make music. From emo, to pop-punk, to folk and even electro-pop, the singer-songwriter has been all over the board with the bands he’s been involved with throughout the past two decades. This type of malleability in the music business is rare, as artists tend to get pigeonholed early on. For Pryor, he found success in the New Amsterdams, the Get Up Kids and a number of other acts before branching out on his own. Thatap some dedication to respect and support when he plays at the Hi-Dive on Jan. 15.

1) Earl Sweatshirt — Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom, Jan. 13, $15-$18

After making his Colorado headlining debut at Boulder’s Fox Theatre in October, Earl Sweatshirt heads back to the state for a two-night run Jan. 12-13. His Boulder show skewed toward the younger, rowdy Odd Future crowd (with the 21-and-up area nearly empty). But here in Denver, the upcoming rapper might bring out an older audience, one more interested in hearing his insightful lyrics rather than jumping on stage and running around shirtless. Either way, it will make for a good show. Sweatshirt plays Fort Collins’ Aggie Theatre on Jan. 12 and Denver’s Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom on Jan. 13.
