4) The Cave Singers — May 11, Ivywild School

Since they’ve sold out the Larimer Lounge on their last two visits to Denver, the Cave Singers have set their sights on new territory to tackle. The band is taking on Colorado Springs with a show at Ivywild School on May 11. Always an engaging live act thanks to Pete Quirk’s fascinating vocals and the band’s solid instrumentation, this might even be one for Denver fans to road trip to Colorado Springs for. And while you’re down there say hi to our friends at The Underground Music Showcase who are presenting the show.

3) Nickel Creek — May 13, 1stBank Center

Nickel-Creek-A

Fans of Nickel Creek have been waiting about seven years to see the successful acoustic trio. The group called it quits in 2007, leaving with the “Farewell (For Now) Tour,” which provided the tiniest — and not quite promising — hint of a reunion in the future. Now, in 2014, the band has exploded back from the hiatus abyss with a new album, “Dotted Line,” and a big arena tour. It includes a stop at Broomfield’s 1stBank Center on May 13 with the Secret Sisters. ($20-$55, 1stbankcenter.com)

2) You Me & Apollo — May 9, Bluebird Theater

After raising $20,018 through a Community Funded Campaign, Colorado indie-rock band You Me & Apollo was able to accrue the cash to pay for its full-length album, “Sweet Honey.” The grassroots movement, the recording, they’re both done and the album is already available on Amazon, Spotify and other digital platforms. The only thing left to do is celebrate. And the band is doing that on May 9 with an album release party at the Bluebird Theater. On the new release, Brent Cowles’ powerful and dynamic vocals bounce and bend an otherwise Western indie-rock group into soulful territory. It’s this voice that will shock the crowd as it engulfs the Bluebird on May 9. Patrick Dethlefs and Desert noises will open the show.

1) The Pains of Being Pure at Heart — May 13, Larimer Lounge

Though the Pains of Being Pure at Heart is playing dozens of shows around the world this year, few will be as special as the May 13 stop at Larimer Lounge. The Denver show happens to be the same day that the indie-pop act is releasing its third studio album, “Days of Abandon.” Early cuts show the band has cleaned its rougher sound that has earned the “noise-pop” definition. It could have something to do with frontman Kip Berman’s maturation as a songwriter coupled with his band’s ever-shifting lineup. The result is an intimate sound, one Pains will likely be eager to celebrate with the Larimer crowd. ($10-$15, larimerlounge.com)
