Rain and snow hit the Denver area overnight Wednesday, with a variety of weather reported Thursday morning, said David Barjenbruch, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service at Boulder. Thunderstorms with small hail along with periods of heavy rain in the area preceded the accumulation of 1 to 2 inches of snow in the eastern parts of the Denver metro area, Barjenbruch said.

Denver International Airport received an inch of new snow Thursday morning, marking the first measurable amount of this largely balmy season, NWS meteorologist Nezette Rydell said.

“It was slushy in Aurora,” Rydell said.

By noon the sun was out across the metro area, with few signs of the earlier precipitation.

The expected high temperature on Thursday is 45 degrees, with partly sunny skies.

The overnight low is forecast to be 27 degrees.

No snow or rain is expected Friday for the metro area, but cooler temperatures will continue, with temperatures topping out at 46 degrees.

“Oh, we’re going to be below freezing,” Rydell said after checking the forecast for Friday morning.
