A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy working a multi-car pileup on I-70 in the foothills was injured Wednesday evening in a hit-and-run incident.

The incident happened about 6:30 p.m. near the Chief Hosa exit, according to the sheriff’s office.

The driver fled the scene in a gold hatchback. The deputy, a woman, suffered minor hand injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

The deputy was taken to St. Anthony Hospital, Lakewood, according to Denver7.

Anyone with information on the incident, or on a possible suspect, is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 303 271-5612.

The eastbound lanes of I-70 in the area were closed by numerous weather related accidents, mostly spinouts, involving more than 20 vehicles.The stretch of highway reopened at about 9:30 p.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
